Listening To: NPR

I like to listen to This American Life on NPR. Here is an interesting one called 'The Invention of Money' - it is explains very well what money actually is and how it came about. Interesting!

Doodle #2

One of my co-workers commissioned a doodle today for his wife. He was rather in the doghouse and bought her a gift which needed wrapping. We rustled up some white paper and dry erase markers and I put my greatest efforts to the project. Here is the finished piece

Wait!

Play this first because I do believe that it calls for a drum-roll.

Viola!

PS - It says "To the Sweet & Lovely Katie" (not the sweet & slovenly Katie like some initially thought - E Gads!)

The WORST thing

If this girl looks annoyed it's because it took her 3 hours to get she shirt sleeves just right.

Shirt sleeves bunching up when you put on a sweater, followed by trying to pull them down while not getting your sweater sleeves all bunched up. Am I the only one who has a hard time with this?? Some days I prefer to just leave them bunched and don't care that it looks like I have Popeye arms.

Music Du Jour: The Cults

The were one of the openers at the Morning Benders concert I went to in October. The more I listen the more I like them.

In Honor of National Popcorn Day.....

I eat popcorn a lot. I may or may not eat it for a very delicious (and well rounded) dinner sometimes because really, what could be better? My popcorn habit reached new proportion when I got one of these. It's awesome - when I am rich I will buy one of these for the whole world (or a live studio audience).

A Short Story

Once upon a time there was a girl who had to get her car battery jumped two times in one week! The first time she definitely left her lights on but the second time her lights were totally in the off position! The girl was very confused. Two days later she lost her cell phone, at the store maybe? But she didn't think she even brought it in? Again she was very confused but is starting to get used to it. The end.

The moral(s) of the story is: Never go shopping and your car may be possessed by the devil.

Friday = Freeday

In honor of the momentous(ey) occasion of it being Friday, I doodled this. Let the celebrations begin!

Music Du Jour: Tegan & Sarah

Here is a cover of Dancing in the Dark by Tegan and Sarah. I don't even like the original but am loving their version. Sadly, I don't think you can actually buy it anywhere....

Paint Me a Pitchah

I saw this cute picture online that kind of reminded me of my sisters - I want to paint it.

I did a little sketch just for fun. It made me remember how much I hate drawing appendages... and elbow joints.. and man! its been awhile since I have sketched people!

Thinking

I always find myself accepting the terms from software updates without thinking twice about it. I am very agreeable like that. I hope I'm not agreeing to anything unpleasant - like sending every third paycheck to the Ho No Hana Foot Reading Cult.

Watching: Gilda

I watched the movie Gilda over the weekend. It's a 1946 drama with Rita Hayworth and Glenn Ford. The movie was okay, it was worth watching just for the 1940's fashions. SO pretty! Rita Hayworth is so beautiful too! Here is a sampling of some of the clothes.

Music Du Jour: M. Ward

I bought this album on a whim awhile ago and just recently took the time to listen to it (I buy too much music). Turns out that it has become my new favorite. I just discovered out he is the other half of She & Him with Zoey Deschanel, which I love so it makes sense that I love this too (maybe even more). I can't narrow it down to one song so here are a couple.

A Short Story

London, aka 'Cooler than Arizona'

Once upon a time there was a girl who's boss had an old grizzled, old artist friend who liked to call and ask her questions like; "I'm already married but would you like to be my second wife?" and just say awkward things to make her uncomfortable in general. One day he came to visit. Her boss made her come meet him even though she very much didn't want to. He gave her a gift (some art) which was very thoughtful and then made her feel very awkward by gushing about her personal appearance to everyone in the vicinity. He then dispensed some helpful advice like she should travel the world and smoke more pot than she was currently in the practice of doing (which was none at all). She agreed about the traveling. She called her a few weeks later and told her she was invited to join him in Europe for two weeks, all expenses paid. Is it wrong that she is tempted to go? The End.

Miscellaneous Things of Note

Wakerupper.com is a website that lets you schedule reminder calls (or wakeup calls in my case) to ring to your cell phone. OR here is a website that lets you set an alarm on your computer (I like the rooster sound option)

This commercial. Love. It.

Apparently the term "Its raining cats and dogs" isn't so far fetched.....

Mint.com tracks all your finances and alerts you if you go over your budget. Amazing.

I really like the idea of dry shampoo but it can be costly and I haven't found any that I love. Here are some instructions for making it yourself. Easy! (and cheap to boot.)

No one earth is funnier than Dave Barry (even Steve Martin says so). Here is his year in review.

TED talks is a website of lectures from leaders, revolutionaries, great thinkers on everything from science to philosophy. Some of them are really good. I like this one and this one.

Watching: True Grit

I went to see True Grit last weekend. I really wanted to see it, which is surprising considering I have never willingly watched a western (since I would rather watch paint dry).
The movie was really good! I liked every bit. The acting was impressive (Jeff Bridges playing the curmudgeonly Rooster Cogburn was really great). It was funny, suspenseful and touching. There were a few scenes that were pretty gory and for some it might be a little bit too quirky (Cohen brother style) but in my opinion well worth seeing.
